Shine Aware is a project borne from gender based violence survivors' resilience, grit, and determination.
Shine Aware brings a unique blend of expertise and knowledge that comes from survivors' unique lived experiences and their own life stories, the way they tell them.
To be shine aware means to keep the light burning to guide and protect us in the darkest of times.
More than anything, it means to hold on to hope and fight.
The purpose of such survivors is to bear witness. We bear witness by telling our stories, and pursuing justice in any form, for us and for those for whom the injustices of gender based violence were too overwhelming.
Only by truly listening to survivors can policymakers and organizations serving our communities provide the services that will make a positive difference.
Lived experience expertise is the most valuable piece in any program or state policy. Truly positive change can happen simply by listening to survivors and by creating solutions tailored for their specific needs. Therefore, Survivors' contributions can translate in substantial savings for organizations and governments.
My website covers complex cultural tropes and debunks gendered myths that have been harmful to survivors and protected groups. By bringing survivor narratives to light and grounding them in social science, we can defang some of the most toxic cultural tropes, myths and stereotypes that poison our lives.
By reading my blog and posted comments you will gain valuable information that will help you assess the current post-truth environment critically. This will bring much needed clarity that will put every reader in the position of making better informed decisions and contribute to building a better foundation for a sustainable future. My blog is also a great resource for staying up-to-date with the latest research in areas of social science that cover justice, feminist thought and civil rights.
Migration and human smuggling are intensifying across all the world. While migration was always a part of human existence, facilitating cultural cross-pollination and economic prosperity, the kind of migration patterns we are seeing today are those of displacement. Due to global crises, like climate change, wars, and resource plundering by global north corporations, migration reached the point of refugee crisis.
As a survivor of gender based violence, I experienced secondary victimization and institutional betrayal from the very organizations that were entrusted with my protection. Today, more and more young women and gender minorities are facing a dilemma: to seek or not to seek justice when harmed at school, work, or at home?
I spent years researching institutional responses and strategies in cases of title IX, VII, ADA and Sec. 504 violations, accumulating valuable expertise in the unwritten curricula that often allows institutions and respondents-defendants to continue to traumatize victims/survivors.

By reading my blog and posted comments you will gain valuable knowledge. In fact, the knowledge compiled In this site and the services contracted is not available to even the most assertive attorneys or researchers, which makes my approach to problem solving more valuable. Such information can make a significant difference in how you or your loved one survives the complaint and investigation process and the legal battle (should things go that way).
